TIPS ON HOW TO GROW YOUR OWN AND BECOME MORE SUSTAINABLE

Meet Anthony

Anthony is a Fermanagh man passionate about ‘grow your own’ and living more sustainably. Anthony works full time in construction but is using his time at home to show his ‘apprentices’ how it’s done – and we’d like to share his tips with you! What is he growing you ask – well, anything you could put in your salad bowl! From curly kale to tomatoes – it’s in there.

Start off small

Anthony’s top tip for growing your own: “Start off small. Don’t try to grow everything at once”.

Plant some seeds in an empty egg box or in a tray filled with toilet roll tubes, to give your seeds a chance before planting them out into bigger pots.

“I’ve collected lots of scrap over the years from different sites so I thought I’d put them to good use. The door on the front of the tunnel used to be in my daughters house and the drills are made from old scaffolding planks.”

Once they start to sprout – transfer them out.

We’ll be catching up with Anthony from time to time so that he can share the things he has learned about growing your own and becoming more sustainable.
