Why are we processing your personal information?

The MyNI website and Social channels are part of an initiative in Northern Ireland to use digital marketing tools and techniques to bring public sector information and services to the people who could benefit from it.

We are processing aggregated, anonymised data for the purpose of improving the content on the site and to see what does and doesn’t work, to send you emails on subjects you are interested in and have opted in to receive (MailChimp).

We will only collect the minimum information from you in order to provide our services to you.

Information collected may vary on a per campaign basis but we will always explain what is being collected and how it will be used and for how long.

What information does collect? collects several kinds of information from visitors to the website:

  • feedback (through visitors emailing us and through comments they provide against content)
  • customer satisfaction surveys (via online surveys)
  • opinion (via online polls)
  • site usage information, using cookies and page tagging techniques, including JavaScript
  • we collect your email address and name if you opt in to receiving our emails

MyNI website

The MyNI website has been created using a content management system called “Drupal”. Other functionality is built in using plugins, such as MailChimp where you can subscribe to topic based email newsletters, and Facebook comments plugin, where you can comment on our content and other users’ comments using your Facebook profile login.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is an industry standard website analytics tool, which allows us to see aggregated, anonymised usage data for the site. This helps us to see how well the site is performing and to make improvements to the site based on this.

Tag Manager

Tag Manager works with Google Analytics and allows us to see how far down a page you are scrolling and which elements you interact with. Again the information is aggregated and anonymised so there is no way of identifying anyone who visits the site. This gives us some feedback on our content so we can make improvements to it.

Facebook Comments Plugin
Facebook comments plugin is embedded as part of the website template, allowing users to comment on our articles and on each other’s comments. You can chose whether you want the comments to appear in your Facebook feed as well.

Users are able to use this commenting tool by logging in with their Facebook account and as such are subject to Facebook Terms and Policies. MyNI does not collect any personal data using this plugin. We will moderate comments in line with our Community Policy, terms and conditions of use and our moderation policy.

Mailchimp is a tool which allows us to create email subscriber lists based on topics which subscribers have opted in to. This means you will receive emails containing content on the subject area you have told us you are interested in and want to receive information on by email. You will always have the option to manage your preferences or to unsubscribe entirely by yourself or you can contact us at [email protected] or MailChimp directly at [email protected].

We are processing your data using your consent as our lawful basis. For general campaigns we will only process your email address. If we require confirmation of age, or where there is a legal requirement to capture identity information we will do so.

We will advise you of when this is applicable, and you will have the choice to opt in.

By subscribing you are agreeing that we can

  • Transfer your contact information to MailChimp
  • Store your contact information in our MailChimp account
  • Send you marketing emails from our MailChimp account on the topics you have opted into
  • Track interactions to evaluate how well our email marketing is working and make improvements based on this.

Please also refer to MailChimp’s Privacy Notice.

What categories of personal data are we processing?

We do not collect any personal data from you when you visit and read content on the MyNI website.  If you subscribe to our email newsletter(s) we will collect your email address in order to provide the service(s) you have opted in to.

This data will only be held for as long as you have opted in to the subscription.

You may withdraw your consent at any time, by managing your preferences, unsubscribing entirely by yourself or you can contact us at [email protected] or MailChimp directly at [email protected].

In all other instances we do not collect personal data, but process aggregated anonymised data that have been collected by third parties (such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn) in order to evaluate the success of our digital marketing efforts, so that we can continue to improve our service to you.
